First hydrogen refueling station for heavy traffic opens at Port of
During the weekend, a hydrogen refueling station for heavy traffic has opened at the Port of Gothenburg. The station is located directly adjacent to one of the Swedish port''s
The port already has shore power facilities at its Ro-Ro, Ro-Pax, and Energy terminals. Magnus Nordfeldt, Head of Business Area Cargo at the Port of Gothenburg, stated: “This transformer station is an important milestone that brings us significantly closer to shore-side power connection for container and car/RoRo vessels.
The total project cost is estimated at around SEK 600 million. The Port of Gothenburg is building a transformer station to enable Onshore Power Supply (OPS) at seven berths by 2030, cutting emissions and meeting future EU regulations.
The Port of Gothenburg has taken a major step towards sustainability with the opening of its first hydrogen refuelling station for trucks and heavy vehicles. Strategically located next to Gate 6, one of the busiest entrances to the port and the country, the station is designed to supply green hydrogen, driving the transition to cleaner transport.
The station is operated by Hydri, a company focused on building a Swedish hydrogen infrastructure network through around 20 hydrogen stations during 2024 and 2025. The station at the Port of Gothenburg is the first and is partially funded by the Swedish Energy Agency. “Green hydrogen has great potential to drive the transition of heavy transport.
