Sweden''s Free Green Power Is Crippling Its Wind Industry
(Bloomberg) -- Sweden''s wind power industry risks becoming a victim of its own success. The country has one of the greenest grids in the world, relying almost entirely on
In particular, nuclear energy and wind power, already significant contributors to the electricity mix, present excellent opportunities for growth. Sweden can bolster its clean energy infrastructure by investing in new nuclear reactors and enhancing its wind power capacity.
To adequately cater to the increasing electricity demand and facilitate the transition towards electrification, Sweden should focus on expanding its low-carbon electricity generation. In particular, nuclear energy and wind power, already significant contributors to the electricity mix, present excellent opportunities for growth.
Sweden's electricity system will be the cornerstone of its energy transition plans. However, sizeable uncertainties exist in the long-term forecasts, including the scale of industrial electricity demand in the north, offshore wind development in the south, and the outlook for existing and new nuclear power plants.
Sweden is making remarkable strides in its electricity sector, with a commendable 98% of its electricity coming from low-carbon sources. This impressive achievement comes from a mix of hydropower, nuclear, wind, biofuels, and solar. Of these, hydropower stands as the largest contributor, accounting for almost 42%.
